Yuletide 2020 Letter post!

Hi, Yuletide Author!!

This is my second year participating and I can't wait! I'm mriaow on AO3.

General likes:
  • pining
  • a strong sense of setting and place
  • banter and humour, including playful teasing
  • regency and politics AUs
  • marriage of convenience/fake dating
  • domesticity and taking care of each other
  • non-toxic masculinity! men sharing their feelings and being physical and affectionate
  • found family! especially queer community
  • sexual tension
  • feelings introspection
  • when characters are close with their family/other friends
  • epistolary/multimedia
  • this is very specific, but I love when a character realizes they really like terms of endearment or a nickname
  • love a good PWP, to be honest

I gave my DNWs in the prompts, but here are some general dislikes:
  • with regards to infidelity, specifically I prefer not mentioning IRL significant others, especially when they're not also famous
  • unhappy/dark/tragic endings or interpretations; I don't mind a bit of darkness within, but I'd prefer it not rule the tone or have a tragic ending
  • de-aging
  • hatesex; I think the exact definition of this is a YMMV situation and sometimes a bit of antagonism can fuel the sexual tension, but I'm not here for people having sex while despising the other person or trying to use sex to hurt them or get one over on them. if you think this might have implications on the pairing or you're not sure - well, I trust you!

I don't really have specific prompts that I feel super strongly about, so if you had an idea in mind when you offered, I'd be happier if you pursued that than if you tried to fit something specifically and didn't feel motivated by it. That being said, I've heard that some authors like to have a prompt to go off of, so I'll share some just in case you'd like a starting point or an idea.

Fandom: The Old Guard RPF
Characters: Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli

Feel free to include other characters I didn't mention! I loved all the different people and languages in the Old Guard, both in the movie and among the cast, but I'd only want you to play around with language or history if you felt comfortable doing so.

As I said in the signup, I love the summer camp film set vibe with everyone in each other's pockets, but would also like a getting-back-together on the press tour, hanging out after filming or on a future project, or even an AU! I feel like this is rife for scenarios like didn't-realise-we're-basically-already-dating, character bleed, friends to lovers, is-he-just-doing-it-for-the-role pining, let's-practice-kissing, fake dating, etc.

I also like PWP if that's your thing.

Fandom: Johan from the Stables, heymermaid tweet
Characters: Johan, Speaker

I'll admit I was thinking Regency/period for this but I suppose it could work in other AUs/settings as well! I don't have a lot of pre-formed ideas or opinions about the setting or the plot, although I think the starting dynamic is clear in the tweet. Would love to know why Johan is the enemy, see an escalation of antagonism, and of course, ~getting together~. I think the enemies-to-lovers and miscommunication possibilities are there. And, as I said, always up for a spoiled-brat-prank-war, falling in love using horses as a go-between, and coming back to the stables in high dudgeon after a rainstorm.

Perhaps at one point Johan falls out of favour with the father and the speaker has to defend him from being dismissed?

Fandom: Skip the Dishes commercials
Characters: Jon Hamm, Brandon

I don't have many plot bunnies here so much as the 'Jon Hamm and his live-in twink' dynamic was obviously appealing for many reasons, some of which are related to General Handsomeness and SiZe DiFfErEnCe.

I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever you do with this, whether PWP or a slice of life or Jon learning to cook or something experimental. There's always that I-can't-because-I-work-for-him/I-can't-because-he-works-for-me miscommunication dance, the sort of slow falling in love through domesticity, Jon Hamm falling out of character or having moments of being very sweet and attentive when he's not in full arrogant asshole mode. (Or, hey - Brandon being THRILLED to be bossed around is also excellent.)

Fandom: Log Driver's Waltz
Characters: Log Driver, Narrator

We love a competency kink! And yes, that IS what I think when I listen to this song, whoops. This is peak Canadiana in that woodsiness is the hottest thing going, and I love the blend of pure masculinity with clear grace and musicality and attention that the narrator notices and is clearly entranced by. Would be happy with just a story about the song doing what it says on the tin, but feel free to make it weird, sweet, funny, a little bit dark, sexy, or anything you like! I don't have a preference for the gender or sexuality of the narrator.

Fandom: Duel with Manuel, ppallo tweet
Characters: Manuel, Narrator, Narrator's Wife

This tweet cracked me up and my literal next thought was: YULETIDE!

I've considered all the options here and I think my preferred ending is some kind of OT3 situation, but how you get there is entirely up to you and if you want to stick with just the Narrator and his wife romantically, that's excellent too. I really like the funny and irreverent something-got-a-little-out-of-hand tone of the tweet. Swordfights! Honour! Any excuse for a picnic! Is this a high drama with life on the line, or a miscommunication? Is 'we will rock you' playing as Manuel's walk-up music? Did the narrator get in a little over his head in defending someone who didn't need it? Does Manuel just challenge people to duels because he's spiritually unfulfilled? Is the wife frustrated with her husband's imposter syndrome about his swordfighting skills? Did the husband and Manuel grow up together? Does the wife know something her husband doesn't? Is it the wife who has beef with Manuel? Doesn't matter to me!

Yuletide 2019 Letter placeholder post!

Hi, Yuletide Author!!

This is my first year participating (Long Time Listener, First Time Caller, etc.) and I'm very excited. I'm mriaow on AO3.

General likes:

  • epistolary/multimedia

I gave my DNWs in the prompts,  but here are some general dislikes:
  • infidelity - specifically I prefer not mentioning IRL significant others, especially when they're not also famous
  • unhappy/dark/tragic endings or interpretations
  • de-aging
  • hatesex

I don't really have specific prompts that I feel super strongly about, so if you had an idea in mind when you offered, I'd be happier if you pursued that than if you tried to fit something specifically and didn't feel motivated by it. That being said, I've heard that some authors like to have a prompt to go off of, so I'll share some just in case!

Fandom: Rivers of London
Characters: Peter Grant, Thomas NIghtingale, Beverley Brook*

*Feel free to include other characters alongside them or, if writing a gen fic, to focus on other characters entirely! I chose these characters because they're the ones I ship with each other (Peter/Nightingale, Peter/Beverley, or Nightingale/Peter/Bev in a V with Peter as a V), so if you're going to write something romantic, I'd like one of those.

I should note that I've only read up to the end of Foxglove Summer, but I'm totally fine to be spoiled for later books (in fact, I probably already will be by the time Yuletide happens). I like the idea of exploring an established relationship later in Peter and Nightingale's partnership, or them negotiating apprentices and Peter growing into a leadership role. I'd love one where they realize they were already dating (or where everyone else thinks they're dating and it prompts a realization). Or a classic trope of the genre, an instance of Mortal Peril where one of them gets scared because the other was in danger and that prompts the realization.

Fandom: Great British Bake Off RPF
Characters: Michael and Henry

Feel free to include other characters, either from this season or past ones! I just mention these two because I'd love a fic where they get together. (If you'd like to include David, go for it - but I'd prefer his IRL SO not be mentioned/involved.) Would love a real-time canon-compliant story of them falling for each other or getting together, either during the show or post-show, or on a holiday special! I think the setting is most of the fun for this one but I'm not opposed to AUs if you have an idea you like. I'd love something along the themes of found family, queer community, banter, non-toxic masculinity (#LeastLaddyLadsClub ftw).

Fandom: Rocketman RPF
Characters: Taron Egerton, Richard Madden

Would love them growing closer during filming; reconnecting during the publicity tour; or trying to make it work after the movie's over. Maybe they both decide to do some theatre one summer and end up in the same/neighbouring West End shows? Maybe they didn't get together during Rocketman but stay in touch while Richard's doing Marvel? Also definitely wouldn't mind a PWP, haha ;)

Fandom: Off Menu Podcast
Characters: James Acaster, Ed Gamble

Would love a travelogue, or maybe something structured around an episode? I would prefer a getting-together/realizing how they feel about each other as opposed to established relationship fic. Feel free to draw on their other work, not just Off Menu! Also, ngl I wouldn't mind a PWP ;)
